Letter to the TBCE RE: Immunity and Chiropractic
On March 19th, the TBCE released the following statement:
“The Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners agrees with and endorses the statements made by the World Federation of Chiropractic relating to chiropractic treatment and COVID-19. https://www.wfc.org/website/image/wfc/Latest_News_and_Features/Coronavirus_statement_2020_03_17.pdf
The Board will investigate claims made that chiropractic spinal adjustment/manipulation confers or boosts immunity as a violation of the law. “
The CST disagrees with the TBCE’s decision to endorse the WFC statement above, as well as the call to action against Chiropractors who claim Chiropractic’s positive effect on the nervous system.
While the TBCE agrees that the Chiropractic adjustment has had a positive effect on the nervous system in the past, the board, in effect by agreeing to the WFC above, denies the relationship between the nervous system and the immune system. The science is clear: there is no separation between the immune system and the nervous system. Denying this, decreases the relevancy of Chiropractic during this trying time for all.
Furthermore, the WFC stated on their own link, which the TBCE cited above, that they made a “rapid review” of 7 items. The CST affirms that this is a careless act against the Chiropractic profession. This decision, based on a speedy, un-scientific analysis could lead to the destruction of not only the health of millions across the globe, but could also negatively affect the vibrancy of the Chiropractic profession.
The CST asks the TBCE to promptly withdraw their support for the WFC, and this decision to limit chiropractors in the care of the public in this stressful time. Chiropractic has and always will affect the immune system by positively affecting the nervous system. Now, more than ever, Chiropractic is needed for those who have a vertebral subluxation. By the proper care of the subluxation, Chiropractic can help our communities get back to the life that existed, pre-COVID-19.
